A quick shout out to some friends that Patty and I got to see while passing through Buffalo, WY on our big road trip.
Mike Painter at Still Life Taxidermy has done a couple of mule deer mounts for me in the past including a personal favorite, my first (and only) 4 x 4 velvet archery mule deer.

Mike was kind enough to meet me despite the early morning hour. He bundled up his young kids and met me at his shop. While we were there, I snapped a quick selfie in front of his recent award winning full-body mule deer mount. Check out his facebook page for some great photos of that mount and others.

Aaron Wuerker worked his butt off guiding Tod and I on several combination mule deer/antelope hunts with Buffalo’s Triple Three Outfitters.
Aaron is a great guide but he’s more than just that. He’s also a recognized and accomplished painter. In fact, Aaron (MFA, Yale) and his wife Jenny Glenn Wuerker (MFA, The American University) were preparing for a joint show at the Nicolaysan Art Museum in Casper when I met them at their Crazy Woman Fine Art Gallery in Buffalo.

They were both gracious enough to spend an hour with me, despite being busy loading up a trailer with paintings for their big exhibit. They both are amazing artists and good people too.

After they drove off towards Casper, Patty and I took a quick walk down to Clear Creek which runs right behind their gallery and all the way through Buffalo. He needed to stretch his legs a bit before the long drive ahead of us.
